I also had the privilege of knowing David Lattin while he played for the Phoenix Suns. For the short period of time I knew David, he was humble and never mentioned that he played for a championship team, a mutual friend of ours told me of the fact.

What I discovered just recently is the impact that game had in basketball history. After reading about the movie and its impact and the fact I knew one of the characters being portrayed, I brought a ticket and enjoyed a sports movie for the first time in my 57 years. The reviews may be luke warm but you really had to live those time to know how courageous those men were.

Race relations were very strained even here in Boston, MA. Dating a black man was not easy and I was called many negative names but what I went through was nothing compared to the blacks in the 1960s. I realize that the racial charged parts were not "real" but indeed those types of incidences did happen.

I sincerely hope the players of today learn from this movie...especially of what those who came before them challenged. I do wish that they would take note of how professional and respective all the players dressed before and after games. I remember that my basketball friends of the late sixties were proud to dress in suits and ties and looked truely spectacular too!

I told my bi-racial daughter to please see this movie and how it even changed things for her... she cheered for a South Carolina basketball team....things are come along way but also have a long way to go.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
