Guadalupe - Major Motion Picture Release December 8

GUADALUPE

a New Major Film

Opens December 8

USA RELEASE information

www.guadalupelapelicula.com (Spanish; English coming soon)

The film is in Spanish with English subtitles

Dos Corazones Films, Mexico

I have seen a rough cut of the film. It has the feel of a telenovela, with various dramatic themes weaving in and out of the story - and it includes the story of the apparitions of La Virgen de Guadalupe to St. Juan Diego 475 years ago. The film is a wondeful companion to the New Line Cinema film coming out on December 1 as well, The Nativity Story (www.thenativitystory.com).  - Rose

Synopsis

500 years ago, a prophecy written in the book of Revelations came to be. A sign in the sky, a lady with the sun in her back, appeared before Juan Diego, a humble Indian learning the ways of Jesus, and in his “tilma” she left her image so people from all over would come to her to find comfort and support and her motherly embrace.

In that miracle image, two different cultures found common ground to work together and forge a nation, to create a future. Now, 500 years later, new facts are being discovered, and a new understanding of the message of Jesus is arising. It’s as if our Lady had left her images as a code that would speak to us through time.

In this movie, two Spanish brothers trying to understand the miracle of our Lady experience the miracle in their souls. As they go deeper and deeper, a feeling of conversion and reconciliation with God and themselves grows stronger.

It is a contemporary story of people who will go beyond scientific facts, to find the true meaning of life.

It is a story of personal struggle which will move the audience into seeking a more profound reflection of God through Our Lady of Guadalupe.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 12, 2006

 “Are Horror Films Catholic?”

Studio City - On Saturday, October 21, 2006 Catholics in Media Associates (CIMA) of Los Angeles will convene a forum during the City of Angels Film Festival that will examine select horror films past and present and discuss whether there is anything about them that reflects Catholicism from a theological perspective. Given that F.W. Murnau’s silent classic Nosferatu (1922) is on the Vatican’s 1995 Important Film list, this event promises to be informative and the conversation lively. The forum will be held at the Directors Guild of America, 7920 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, from 9:00 am – 11: am.

The panel will be hosted by Haskell V. Anderson, actor and vice-president of CIMA and moderated by Scott D. Young, Founder of the City of Angels Film Festival. Panelists include Rev. Peter Malone, London-based film critic, president emeritus of SIGNIS, the international Vatican-approved organization for communication and award-winning author of the Lights, Camera… Faith! book series, Eric David, a Los Angeles-based film journalist for Netflicks, Dr. Monica Ganas, Azusa Pacific University, Professor of Film and Theater, and Sister Rose Pacatte, FSP, director of the Pauline Center for Media Studies in Culver City, film and television critic for the national magazine, St. Anthony Messenger and film essayist for The Tidings.  $25.00, students $10.00 Purchase tickets at www.cityofangelsfilmfest.org  or at the door.

1 vs 100

Hi all,

This is to let you know that I will be on a new show called "1 vs 100" on NBC, beginning this Friday at 9:00pm. Hosted by Bob Saget. I don't know how they edited the show or which day(s) I will be on. I think they taped five shows. It's about pop culture trivia.

The network (NBC) wanted someone to go on for a non-profit. I have no idea how I came off (and I tremble a little at the thought.) It certainly was educational though. To tape a 43 minute program it took HOURS and incredible planning and coordination. I arrived on the lot at noon and left at about 12:10am. The producers and everyone were extremely nice - including the other contestants that I spoke with. That's all I can tell you according to the contract!!

I played for our Daughetrs of St. Paul Retired Sisters Fund and thanked all the people watching who contribute to the annual fund for retired sisters (I hope they left that in.)

Tune in....

Guadalupe: A New Film

On December 1, 2006, a new feature film about Our Lady of Guadalupe will open on 200 screens in the United States. The film is entitled Guadalupe and is being released to coincide with the 475th anniversary of the miracle of Guadalupe when Mary appeared to the now St. Juan Diego and left her image on his cloak. I was priviledged to be invited to a conference at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico last week is on the history of the event in preparation for the release of the film. I will add more to this entry as soon as I transfer my pictures from my camera and write up my notes.

The film is produced by Dos Corazones Films (Mexico). It is in Spanish with English subtitles.

I learned so much during the one day conference. One of the most significant things is that the image of Guadalupe is of a pregnant Mary; that her image is of a young Jewish girl and she called herself "Guadalupe", an Arabic name originating in Spain.

I am fascinated by the fact that two films about Mary are being released on December 1. The Nativity Story (New Line Cinema) is about the year before Jesus' birth and Guadalupe tells the story of Mary's appearance (as a pregnant mother-to-be of the Son of God) to a humble indiginous man in Mexico and the influence of this event on the lives of two brothers. The two films seem to be very compatible.

Here is a synopsis of the film from the publicity material:

Virgen de Guadalupe
